The Maldives has called on Israel to end its illegal occupation of Palestine.
In a statement expressing concern over the recent escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip, the Maldives stated that it stands in solidarity with the government and the people of Palestine, and urged the full implementation of Security Council resolutions that have declared null and void the occupation of Palestine, and the annexation of the Holy City of Jerusalem. The Maldives reiterated its position that a lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
Meanwhile, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also expressed concern over the escalation of violence. In his statement, President Solih said that the Maldives remain in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to dignity and self-determination. He condemned Israel’s disproportionate use of force on defenseless Palestinian communities and renewed his administration's call for a two-state solution that ensures peace for all.
Moreover, President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu called on Israel to end its illegal occupation of Palestine and return the lands forcefully seized from Palestinians. He also said Israel should recognise Palestine as an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital within the 1967 borders and allow the immediate return of refugees.
