PNC signs coalition agreement with MNP

The People's National Congress (PNC) and the Maldives National Party (MNP) have signed a coalition agreement for the second round of the presidential election. The agreement was officially signed by the Leader of PNC Abdul Raheem Abdulla and the President of MNP Mohamed Nazim.

Speaking at the function held at Meerumaa Hall, Nazim said MNP decided to support Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the candidate of PNC, due to the shared similarities in manifestos and policies of both parties. He also said that the decision to form a coalition was rooted in these commonalities.

Meanwhile, Dr. Muizzu expressed his gratitude and acknowledged the support of MNP would boost the campaign efforts of PNC in pursuit of victory in the presidential election.

The preliminary results showed that no candidate received 50% of the vote. As such, Muizzu received 46.15% or 101,453 of the votes. His closest rival President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) received 39.09% or 85,920 votes. Meanwhile, Nazim who contested from MNP received 0.86% of the votes.

The second round of the presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 30.
