President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed confidence that he will win the second round of the presidential election.
During a meeting with his campaign team, President Solih said that the poor result in the first round was not a first for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He shared details of the hardships faced by the main ruling party after its inception and the numerous disappointments they had to overcome.
Additionally, President Solih said that MDP has since conducted surveys and obtained enough information to acknowledge the mistakes they have made in the initial campaign. As such, he said that a plan has been formulated to allow the next campaign to reach out to more people and urge them to come out to vote in the second round of the election.
Furthermore, President Solih emphasised that a significant number of MDP supporters abstained from voting in the first round. He expressed his belief that increasing the campaign efforts would lead to a substantial boost in votes for the party in the run-off. He also pointed out that the initial round witnessed the lowest voter turnout in the country's history, highlighting the importance of winning over the undecided.
