Independent presidential candidate Faris Maumoon has pledged to abolish the current national health insurance scheme, Aasandha, and replace it with a new and more transparent health insurance system.
During the presidential debate, Faris criticised the healthcare sector in the country for its lack of regulation and labelled Aasandha as a source of corruption. He also accused certain politicians of misusing Aasandha funds. He vowed to put an end to such practices and establish an accountable healthcare system for the benefit of the public.
Additionally, Faris pledged to establish accessible and much-needed hospitals within the Maldives, eliminating the necessity for citizens to seek medical treatment abroad. He criticised the influence of coercion in the judiciary sector and other institutions in the country and asserted that his government would promote institutional freedom and liberalism.
Furthermore, Faris stressed the importance of formulating a strong, consensus-driven policy to address the major issues in the Maldives. He also called for setting aside political ideologies and focusing on the direction of the country instead.
