Current housing development is cheaper than before: MDP

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that the current administration are building cheaper housing units compared to the previous administration of President Abdulla Yameen.

At a press conference, Mariya Ahmed Didi, the spokesperson of the party's candidate, compared the cost of the housing projects initiated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and former President Yameen. She highlighted that the previous government only built housing units with two rooms while the current administration is developing two-room and three-room apartments.

Additionally, Mariya said that the previous government spent as much on developing two-room apartments as the current administration does on developing three-room apartments. She detailed that the previous government spent USD62,000 on two-room apartments while the current administration is spending USD48,000 at the most to develop two-room apartments and USD69,000 to develop three-room apartments.

Furthermore, Mariya said that, unlike the previous government, the current administration provides housing with all essential services established. She also criticised the policies of the main opposition's candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, by saying that his pledges have already been fulfilled or in the process of being fulfilled by the current administration.
