Muizzu pledges mid-year and December school holidays

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the People's National Congress (PNC) presidential candidate, has pledged to introduce school holidays in both mid-year and December. He made the remark while speaking at a campaign event held in Nilandhoo, Faafu Atoll.

During the event, Muizzu initially disclosed a proposal to move school holidays to the year's end. Taking into account the concerns of resort employees, he committed to finding a resolution. He emphasised that shifting the major holiday to year-end posed no issues. He also made a pledge to offer a four-week break in the middle of the year, addressing the concerns raised by resort employees.

Additionally, Muizzu pledged to implement a new housing initiative and a dedicated retirement pension plan for tourism employees under his administration. He highlighted the absence of any prior housing projects aimed specifically at individuals employed within the tourism industry.

The government altered the ongoing academic year due to December being the peak tourism season, which hampers tourism staff from spending time with their families. Nevertheless, since the Maldives experiences its rainy season in the middle of the year, there are doubts about the appropriateness of the adjustment.
