Qasim pledges to provide free housing to security personnel

Qasim Ibrahim, the presidential candidate of the Jumhooree Party (JP), has pledged to provide free housing to judges and officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

At a campaign event in Maamigili, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Qasim said that those who work tirelessly to serve the people and their families should not have to worry about housing. He stressed that it is the duty of the state to guarantee suitable compensation and a secure livelihood for those committed to national security. He noted the increasing number of military personnel and the subsequent challenges in providing accommodations.

Therefore, Qasim pledged to solve the issue, despite the failures of previous governments. He said that his administration will provide modern accommodations wherever officers and judges are employed and that they will not have to pay rent. He also pledged to develop a 15-storey building at Bandeyri Koshi, the state housing block in Male' City, and to waive the rent payments for military and police officers and residents of the Hiyaa flats.
