Nazim pledges to allow longline and shark fishing

Mohamed Nazim, the presidential candidate of the Maldives National Party (MNP), has pledged to allow longline fishing and shark fishing. He made the statement while speaking to journalists after concluding his trip to the atolls.

Speaking to journalists, Nazim said that he will designate a special region for longline and shark fishing to allow Maldivians to benefit. He said that fishermen in the islands that he visited have expressed that they wish to resume longline fishing and shark fishing, which have been banned by the government.

As such, Nazim said that his manifesto includes policies to allow these types of fishing in designated zones and during specific seasons. He detailed that his administration will allow longline and shark fishing for four months of the year.

During his campaign tour, Nazim visited islands in Noonu Atoll, Raa Atoll, and Baa Atoll. During the visits, Nazim held discussions and listened to the concerns of the residents of the islands.
