Presidential candidate Ilyas Labeeb said that fishermen will receive fair prices for their catch under the administration of The Democrats.
At a campaign event in Gadhdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Ilyas noted that residents of Gadhdhoo receive an income from fishing. As such, he pledged to provide opportunities for them to increase the revenue they receive from catching and processing fish. He also pledged to increase the price of one kg of fish to USD1.6.
Additionally, Ilyas said that his administration will develop local tourism and eco-tourism in Gadhdhoo and transfer nearby Gan under the jurisdiction of Gadhdhoo Island Council. He further pledged to develop a hospital on the island.
Ilyas is visiting Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll with a delegation consisting of Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and senior members of The Democrats.
