HRCM urges state institutions to ensure free and fair election

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has urged all state institutions to ensure a free and fair presidential election.

In a press statement, HRCM stated that it is working to ensure that the upcoming presidential election is a transparent, free and fair election with direct participation of the people based on democratic principles as stipulated in the Elections General Act. The commission stated that it is monitoring the election in three phases, which are to monitor pre-election activities, observe polling day proceedings, and monitor post-election events.

Additionally, HRCM stated that discussions will be held to raise public awareness on the rights of the people. The commission will also hold meetings to consult with stakeholders and discuss the preparations for the elections and the challenges that may arise.

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) is working to hold a transparent, free and fair presidential election. The election will be held on September 9 and a possible second round will be held on September 30.
