Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim has appointed Dr. Ameen Ibrahim as his running mate.
JP Leader Qasim held discussions with several potential candidates before selecting the party's deputy leader, Ameen, who has extensive experience in various senior government roles. Notably, Ameen held the position of Minister of Transport and Communication during President Abdulla Yameen's administration.
Additionally, JP has decided to lead its own coalition in the presidential election instead of remaining in the ruling government coalition. As such, JP held a meeting with the Maldives National Party (MNP) and The Democrats to discuss backing a single candidate but ultimately decided to field its own candidate.
