Kalaafaanu School was built with grant aid from the government of Japan with the groundbreaking ceremony held in February 1988. The project took less than eighteen months for completion, and Kalaafaanu School was officially inaugurated by Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in July 1989. Since its inauguration over 30 years ago, thousands of Maldivian students have graduated from Kalaafaanu School, many of whom are serving the nation in various sectors and distinguished positions in the government.

Minister Yoshimasa then visited the Seawall Tetrapod Monument. The Male’ Seawall Construction Project was completed during the early 1990s in four different phases and is the biggest project ever carried out by the government of Japan under its Grant Aid Scheme. The Seawall Tetrapod Monument, which is located in the South-East Side of Male’, is a token of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Japan.
