Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof has said that the number of complaints submitted by civil society organisations has been reduced with efforts to address their concerns, adding that it is proof that positive results can be achieved. He made these remarks in his address at the function to present the first Civil Society Awards 2023.
Speaking at the function, Minister Mahloof said that civil society organisations are the key players in connecting the public and the government in any country. He also said that achieving big results with a small budget shows the ability of such organisations. He, therefore, said that he was pleased that such organisations are getting the recognition and appreciation they deserve during this administration.
Additionally, Minister Mahloof noted that it will not take longer than six months for an organisation to get registered now. He said that registration of an organisation will be facilitated within three days through the Mees Portal launched by Vice President Faisal Naseem at the function.
During the function, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented awards to 10 recipients, while First Lady Fazna Ahmed presented award letters to the recipients of the grants for non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Introducing the Civil Society Awards is a significant milestone for the Maldives. The awards aim to foster social empowerment, encourage proactive engagement by civil society, raise awareness about pressing social issues, and recognise and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of civil society.
