Gov't seeks contractor to install solar power systems in 20 islands

The government has announced that it is seeking a contractor to set up 20MW solar power generation systems in 20 islands.

The project is part of the Accelerating Sustainable System Development Using Renewable Energy (ASURE) funded under the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project is open on a design and build basis. The bids for the project are open until August 14 and a bid security of USD500,000 should be submitted.

Solar power generation systems have already been set up in several islands in the Maldives. In 2017, a total of 4.57MW of power generation systems were assigned to be set up in 27 inhabited islands in Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu atolls

The renewable energy system is a special priority of the government. By the end of this year, 42MW solar power systems will be installed across the country. It will save the atmosphere from 50,000 tonnes of toxins.
