MTCC says biggest obstacle is lack of skilled workers

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that one of the biggest obstacles it faces is the lack of skilled workers.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adam Azim said that MTCC aims to create skilled workers for a wide variety of jobs it is offering. He said MTCC currently has the capability to develop harbours, airports and roads. He, however, said that the lack of resources and technical skills to carry out projects is a huge issue.

Furthermore, Azim said MTCC introduced Hunavaru Apprenticeship Programme in 2021 to achieve its goal of training employees. He said the programme aims to build more professional youth. Scholarships are awarded in various fields of engineering, and Information and Technology (IT).

MTCC stated that 25 employees are currently studying at major universities abroad. MTCC also plans to send 15 more employees abroad to study this year.
