Housing schemes announced after verifying land availability: Gov't

The Spokesperson at the President's Office Miuvaan Mohamed has stated the government announced the Gedhoruveriya and Binveriya housing schemes after ensuring that the required land is available.

Speaking at a press conference, Miuvaan said that discussions are underway on the reclamation of the lagoon in Hulhumale'. He, however, said no decision has been taken yet.

Additionally, Miuvaan said the claim that part of the lagoon is being reclaimed due to a lack of land under the government's housing project is not true. He also said that the government opened the housing projects after identifying and securing the land for the housing schemes.

The government announced the Gedhoruveriya and Binveriya housing schemes in July last year to address the housing problem for the residents of Male' City. The government announced the allocation of 5,000 land plots under the Binveriyaa scheme and the allocation of 4,000 housing units under the Gedhoruveriya scheme.
