Four more segments of Ameenee Magu to be completed

Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) plans to complete the development for four more segments of Ameenee Magu this month.

RDC has so far completed the development of three out of 13 segments and is developing four segments between the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) Building and Billabong High International School. The company stated that asphalt will be laid on these segments before the end of the month.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik said RDC is dismantling the roads and fixing the water supply and sewerage pipelines, and burying the stormwater drainage system and cables. He said that the project is now progressing at a fast pace as workers are working on all four segments simultaneously.

Additionally, Managing Director Manik said that the machines to be used for laying the asphalt are being installed in order to complete the four segments this month. He also said that the work to develop the other six segments will be split into three phases in order to complete the project in August.

Ameenee Magu is one of the busiest roads in Male’ City due to the high number of office buildings and schools and is one of the few roads that run across the length of the capital city. It is also the main network for utility services and connects the traffic to all areas of the city. However, the road has been in poor condition for years and causes difficulties for vehicles and pedestrians.

The road development project involves paving the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million.
