Harbour development project commences in Kooddoo

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has revealed the harbour development project in Kooddoo, Kooddoo, has commenced. The existing harbor is being expanded and renovated as part of the project.

MIFCO awarded the contract to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for the expansion of the harbour in Kooddoo. The project is tasked to be completed within a year. When the project is completed, the harbour will become spacious enough to accommodate larger fishing vessels for fish processing and ice collection without waiting in queues for long periods of time.

MIFCO stated that the existing 300ft harbour will be expanded to 400ft as part of the project. In addition, MIFCO decided to build a special jetty in Koodoo to accommodate large fish processing vessels such as Mahaa Kalaminja and Jazeera 103. MIFCO also decided that additional two cranes will be installed and a total of five cranes will be available to provide fish processing services to fishermen. MIFCO stated that the queuing time will be significantly reduced with these changes.

MIFCO also stated that a 50-container storage yard for fish exports will also be set up when the project is completed. In addition, a special area for boat maintenance will be developed outside the harbour in Kooddoo, which will greatly reduce the congestion inside the harbour.
