India releases USD117,000 for 3 projects under HICDP

The government of India has released USD117,000 to commence three projects in the Maldives funded under Indian grant assistance as part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP).

The grant assistance is needed to continue and complete ongoing projects in the Maldives. These include the Sports Complex in Gadhdhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Aboobakuru School in Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Kadhdhoo School in Laamu Atoll, and the strengthening of Inclusive Education Support Units in Haa Alifu Atoll Education Centre.

The assistance will help develop online learning resources for Students with Complex Learning Profiles (SCLP) and train teachers in the use of assistive technologies. The assistance will also be used to accelerate the installation of 100 street lights under the HICDP scheme in Veymandhoo, Thaa Atoll.

HICDPs are an important part of the strong development relationship between India and the Maldives. These projects are aimed at the needs of island communities. USD10 million has been provided so far under the HICDPs. In addition, India has provided USD6.8 million in free assistance to support 18 development projects in different parts of the Maldives.
