Applications reopen for 308 plots in Maafushi

Maafushi Island Council has reopened the opportunity for individuals to submit applications for 308 land plots from the newly reclaimed area. The council reopened the opportunity after amendments were made to the regulations for allocating land for residential purposes.

The council stated that the 308 land plots of 2,000sqm will be allocated from the newly reclaimed area in Maafushi. The first opening for individuals to submit applications for the land plots was opened on March 30. However, the announcement has now been cancelled due to amendments made to the regulations for allocating land for residential purposes. The council stated that the opportunity to apply for land has been reopened with amendments made to the regulations. The council stated that two amendments have been made to the regulations. As such, a total of 20 points will be given to individuals 40 years of age or older and 30 points to those who are non-residents of Maafushi.

The requirements for individuals seeking the 2000sqm land plot include not having acquired a land title or private land or a portion of land larger than 600ft on an island in the Maldives. The individuals must not have a government-built building or flat registered under their name.

The application form for the land plots is available for download from the Government Gazette. Applications will be available from the Maafushi Council from 0930-1230hrs on non-official holidays until June 15. Applications will be accepted from April 9 to June 15 from 0930-1300hrs on non-official holidays.

Maafushi in Kaafu Atoll has always faced the issue of not having enough land area for housing. The last time land plots were given in Maafushi was 20 years ago. The island is famous for its local tourism.
