Parliament approves three non-resident ambassadors

The Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of three non-resident ambassadors. The appointments were approved with votes from 52 parliamentarians.

The Parliament approved the appointment of High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Ali Faiz as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Seychelles, Mauritius, Qatar, South Africa, and New Zealand, Ambassador to the United States (US) Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Canada, and Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Aminath Shabeena was nominated as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Ethiopia and Kenya.

Ali Faiz is a former parliamentarian and has held senior positions in state-owned companies. He also served as the President of the Police Board. In addition, Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed served in senior positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Ambassador-at-Large, Foreign Secretary, Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), and Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN Office in Geneva, Switzerland. Meanwhile, Aminath Shabeena has worked in various positions in the foreign ministry for many years and holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
