Maldives reiterates commitment to fight corruption

The Maldives has reiterated its unwavering commitment to fight corruption. The statement was made by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel at the Indo-Pacific Regional Meeting of the Summit for Democracy 2023, convened under the theme of Challenges and Progress in Addressing Corruption.

During the meeting, State Minister Khaleel delivered the country's statement and reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Maldives to fight corruption. He stressed how corruption erodes public trust, undermines the rule of law, and hinders economic progress, emphasising the need for international cooperation in combating corruption.

Additionally, State Minister Khaleel reflected on the government’s multi-faceted efforts towards tackling corruption by strengthening the legal and institutional frameworks, promoting transparency, encouraging public participation within the Maldives, and building partnerships with the international community to share best practices and lessons learned.

The Indo-Pacific Regional Meeting is part of the Second Summit for Democracy and it provided an opportunity for representatives from governments, international organisations, civil society, and the private sector to dialogue and discussions on advancing the shared vision of addressing corruption in the region to create a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.
