Two candidates nominated for MIRA Tax Commissioner post

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated two candidates for the post of Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), following the resignation of Hassan Zareer.

The position became vacant after Zareer resigned upon his appointment as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises.

In a letter to the Parliament, President Muizzu said the two nominees were selected from among applicants who responded to the public call for applications for the post. He stated that both candidates were considered suitable for appointment.

The nominees are Mohamed Haleem Abdul Ghafoor of Saadhaage, Thakandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll, and Fathimath Ameeza of Cozy Round, Gadhdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

Haleem holds a Master's degree in Professional Accountancy from the University of London and has extensive experience in the accounting profession. He currently serves as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives.

Ameeza holds a Master's degree in Accounting from Monash University in Australia. She currently serves as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA.

The nomination has been referred to Parliament's Economic Affairs Committee for review. The committee is expected to interview both candidates before submitting its recommendation to Parliament, where the appointment will be decided through a vote of members.
