President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has dismissed Mohamed Shifaz as the Minister at the President’s Office.
Shifaz is the Vice President of the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He was appointed as Minister at the President’s Office in November 2018, making him one of the first political appointees made by President Solih.
Disagreements have emerged within MDP after President Solih won the primary election after defeating Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. In addition, Shifaz has been criticised for working against party policies while remaining in a high-level government position.
