The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has announced the compilation of a register of local media outlets within a month. The new regulation is currently being implemented in the country.
MMC stated that the regulation to register local media outlets should be compiled to distinguish between regular and non-regulated media outlets. The regulation will facilitate the maintenance of a register of all registered media outlets in the Maldives. The new register will consider as operating media only those media that are operating or publishing in accordance with the sections specified in the sections in which a media is registered, according to the regulations.
MMC stated that the media register should be compiled within one month from the date of implementation of the regulation. The register will be compiled by a committee appointed by MMC and will be maintained by the Secretariat of MMC. The regulation also states that the register should be completed every three months.
