Smart street lights installed in Male’ City

Male’ City Council has begun installing smart streetlights in the capital Male’ City.

The project is being conducted in partnership with China’s Yunnan Province as part of the Digital Male’ project of the city council. The project was launched at a special ceremony held at Artificial Beach in Male’ by Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Ma Zhuozin, the Head of the Delegation from Yunnan Province.

At the launching ceremony, Muizzu said smart streetlights were donated by Yunnan Province and will serve as instruments for the council to deliver important messages to the public. He said the poles have a free Wi-Fi service, digital LED screen, speaker system, and CCTV cameras, and will also be used to predict weather patterns. He added that the council is holding discussions to allow businesses to show advertisements on the screen.

Additionally, Muizzu said 10 smart streetlights have been installed on the street leading from Artificial Beach to Lonuziyaaraiy Park and that more poles will be installed on the ring road before being installed on the inner streets. He also said that the council will operate the CCTV cameras through its monitoring system and that recorded footage will be made available to the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
