New powerhouse opened in Faresmaathoda

Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has inaugurated the new powerhouse in Faresmaathoda, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The new powerhouse consists of four generator sets and has a capacity of 1,800kW and will be used to power Faresmaathoda Airport. The powerhouse has separate rooms for generators, the control room, and the office.

Residents of Faresmaathoda had been complaining about the old powerhouse for 10 years due to the smell, loud noise, and its proximity to houses and the school. In order to solve this issue, the new powerhouse was built away from the residential area.

In the past four years, the administration has relocated 70 powerhouses in the atolls away from residential areas. The project in Faresmaathoda commenced last year.
