BML introduces additional login notifications

Bank of Maldives (BML) has enabled email alerts for all failed login attempts on the Internet or Mobile Banking, in addition to sending new login alerts, as a further step to protect customers.

BML stated that an additional email alert will also be sent if the Internet or Mobile Banking is disabled following three consecutive failed login attempts. These notifications have been enabled to ensure customers are aware of any attempts to log in to their Internet or Mobile Banking and will be sent to registered email addresses. If any unusual login activity is noticed, customers are advised to change passwords immediately under Settings.

BML advised customers to not share Internet and Mobile Banking Username and Passwords with anyone. Customers are advised to change passwords regularly and to ensure strong passwords are always used.

BML has taken several steps to protect customers from scams. The bank earlier enabled a One Time Password (OTP) for all Scan to Pay payments. It also introduced authenticator apps to generate OTPs, disabling email as a default OTP channel, and began sending login alerts as well as push notifications for all Internet and Mobile Banking transactions.

BML stated that scams evolve over time and the bank will continue its efforts to protect customers and introduce additional security features over the coming weeks. It further urged customers to be aware of common scam tactics and never share personal information.
