Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has ordered the removal of vessels placed without permission in Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu in Kaafu Atoll.
HDC formulated a policy on how to deal with floating vessels and parked vehicles due to the unauthorised docking of vessels in the area. HDC said that vessels in Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu have been ordered to be removed from the area on several occasions. However, the vessels have not been removed to date. HDC said the presence of such vessels is hampering many projects planned by the government in the area in addition to damaging the environment.
HDC said the owner of the vessels abandoned in the area will be given between 7-30 days to remove the vessel. HDC said it reserves the right to destroy the vessels If they are not removed within the period.
