Saudi-based budget airline Flynas has announced it will be operating flights to the Maldives for the summer season.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) stated that Flynas will operate flights from May to October. The airline is scheduled to operate three flights per week from King Khalid International Airport to Velana International Airport (VIA).
Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, is the only airline from the gulf kingdom currently operating flights to the Maldives. Saudia resumed scheduled flights to the Maldives in 2021 after suspending its operations in the Maldives due to the lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, a total of 35 international airlines are operating flights to the Maldives, including scheduled and charter flights. Many airlines began operating flights to the Maldives during the peak tourist season.
Ministry of Tourism has revealed that 393,839 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a 24% increase compared to the same period last year. Statistics show that a daily average of 6,790 tourists arrive in the Maldives.
