Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has sent a list of government companies that can be privatised to the President's Office.
Speaking to the Parliamentary Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (SOE), Secretary General of PCB Ahmed Yameen said the government is making efforts to privatise state-owned companies. He said a list of companies that could be privatised has now been sent to the President's Office. He, however, did not mention which companies but said the necessary regulations have been made to privatise state-owned companies.
The government has formulated a privatisation programme from 2021-2023. The government has also set a target of privatising the companies to raise USD129.7 million within three years. There are currently 31 state-owned companies in the Maldives but none of these companies have been privatised so far.
