JSC to appoint judges to superior courts

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to appoint judges to the superior courts.

JSC stated that the advisory committee on the appointment of judges has interviewed the applicants to the Criminal Court bench and recommended appointing Ibrahim Ihsan, Ibrahim Zihuna, and Aminath Azleena as judges.

Ibrahim Ihsan is the Chief Magistrate of the Gaafu Alifu Judicial Constituency and earlier served as a legal officer at the Villingili Magistrate Court. He holds a Bachelor of Law (Honours) from the Maldives National University (MNU).

Ibrahim Zihuna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Shariah and Law from the Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. She worked as a legal officer at the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) in 2013 and as a legal officer at the Drug Court in 2014. She has been serving as a public prosecutor at the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) since 2016.

Aminath Azleena holds a Bachelor of Shariah and Law (Honours) from the Islamic University of Maldives and a Master of Shariah from Villa College. She worked at the police integrity commission beginning in 2012 and has been serving as a legal officer at the Criminal Court since 2015.

Additionally, the advisory committee recommended the appointment of Sinan Ali, Faisal Adam, and Abdulla Ihsan as Judges to the Civil Court. Sinan Ali is a legal officer at the Civil Court, Faisal Adam is a legal officer at the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), and Abdulla Ihsan is a legal officer at the Addu City Council.

Furthermore, JSC decided to appoint Mohamed Fazeeh as Chief Magistrate of the Faresmaathoda Magistrate Court, Ahmed Niyaz as Chief Magistrate of the Feeali Magistrate Court, Ahmed Roohulla Shiyam as Chief Magistrate of the Gemanafushi Magistrate Court, and Yaris Mohamed as Chief Magistrate of the Mulah Magistrate Court.

The judges will be taking their oath on March 13.
