Councillor for Villimale’ constituency Nahula Ali has addressed concerns over the actions of the Male’ City Council.
In a press statement, Councillor Nahula expressed concern over the council not allowing her to respond to questions related to Villimale’ during a meeting with constituents. She also said that the microphone was cut off while some members of the public were speaking and that some councillors had given false information while answering questions. She added that the council had been making decisions on some issues without proposing them at meetings.
Additionally, Councillor Nahula said she was not involved in the decision of Mayor Mohamed Muizzu to offer a land plot in Villimale’ to Redwave Private Limited, adding that the decision was not discussed with the council. She further said that she was unlawfully dismissed as Chair of the Villimale’ Committee after she was dismissed from the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and that the committee has since been making decisions without informing her or giving any notification.
The Male’ City Council has responded by stating that the agreement with Redwave was made in accordance with the relevant regulations. As such, the council stated that the bid committee had accepted proposals to construct a commercial building in Villimale’ and chosen the best bid. It further stated that the Villimale’ councillor had debated the issue during meetings and voted in favour of the proposal.
