MNP to contest Guraidhoo by-election

The Maldives National Party (MNP) has decided to contest the by-election of the Guraidhoo Constituency Parliament seat. MNP stated that it has opened the opportunity for interested party members to submit their candidacy, adding that it will hold a primary election on March 10 if necessary.

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) will hold the by-election for Guraidhoo Constituency on April 15. The seat became vacant after Parliamentarian Ibrahim Riza passed away while undergoing treatment for cancer in Malaysia. He represented the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and was one of the longest-serving parliamentarians.

Furthermore, the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will be holding a primary election on March 11 to finalise its candidate for the Guraidhoo Constituency by-election. MDP contested for Guraidhoo Constituency during the last three terms but has never won the Parliament seat.
