MRM submits forms to reach 3,000 members

Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has reached 3,000 members and has submitted membership forms to the Elections Commission Maldives (ECM).

MRM had 2,981 members, according to the latest figures released by the ECM. In June last year, ECM issued a notice to MRM for falling short of the minimum membership required by law. However, MRM has now reached the required 3,000 members.

Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) and Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party (MLSDP) are the other parties that have not acquired enough signatures to fulfill the minimum membership of 3,000 as required under the Political Parties Act. ECM has decided to abolish DRP after the party was unable to reach the required 3,000 members as stated by law.

MRM is the third political party formed by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom since 2005. MRM was registered on November 20, 2019.
