Seychelles has commended the prominent role of the Maldives in the international arena on climate-related issues and at the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). The statement was made by the High Commissioner of Seychelles to the Maldives Claude Morel after presenting his letter of credence to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
During the ceremony held at the President's Office, President Solih welcomed the High Commissioner Morel and congratulated him on assuming his new role. Afterward, President Solih and High Commissioner Morel engaged in discussions on various subjects, including improving maritime security, counter-narcotics cooperation, anti-human trafficking cooperation, tourism, and the fisheries sector.
Speaking at the meeting, High Commissioner Morel noted the work of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid during his tenure as the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He also expressed profound gratitude to President Solih for his visit to Seychelles in 2019, highlighting that the landmark visit had been momentous and further cemented the relationship between the two nations.
During the meeting, President Solih conveyed his best wishes and hopes for enhanced relations and cooperation between the two nations during High Commissioners Morel's tenure.
