JP concludes fourth National Conference

Jumhooree Party (JP) has concluded its fourth National Conference.

Those in attendance at the closing ceremony included Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, former President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Ibrahim Ismail, and Parliamentarian Ahmed Usham along with foreign diplomats.

At the closing ceremony, former Vice President Abdulla Jihad was appointed as the special adviser to Leader of JP Qasim Ibrahim. Letters of appointment were also handed over to other advisers. They are former Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed, former Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz, and former Parliamentarians Ilham Ahmed, Riyaz Rasheed, and Ahmed Nihan.

Over 700 members participated in the National Conference, during which JP elected five deputy leaders, including Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula. JP also elected members to some positions uncontested. They include Qasim Ibrahim as Leader, Abdulla Yameen as President of the Youth League, Shuaib Shifaz Shareef as Vice-President of the Youth League, and Aishath Shooza Ahmed as Secretary of the Women's League. In addition, the posts of president and vice president of the party were abolished.
