JP elects five Deputy Leaders

Jumhooree Party (JP) has elected five deputy leaders, including Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula.

The voting took place during the JP National Conference held at Dharubaaruge convention centre. There were 12 candidates running for the post of deputy leader, including those who held several senior government positions. A total of five candidates were elected, including Minister Nahula with 558 votes, Ameen Ibrahim with 327 votes, Ali Shah with 287 votes, Ahmed Saud with 275 votes, and Iqbal Adam with 263 votes.

JP stated 741 members had registered to vote in the party's internal elections. Of these, 680 members voted which is 91% of the registered members. Members have also been elected to additional positions. However, the results have not yet been announced.

Furthermore, JP also elected members to some positions without an election. According to the JP Constitution, if one candidate runs for an elective position they will be elected without a vote. As such, the party elected Qasim Ibrahim as its Leader among those elected to various positions without a vote. Abdulla Yameen was elected as President of the Youth League, Shuaib Shifaz Shareef as Vice-President of the Youth League, and Aishath Shooza Ahmed as Secretary of the Women's League. In addition, National Conference abolished the posts of president and vice president of the party.
