Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has denied claims that prisoners in Maafushi Prison are being abused.
Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu made the statement on Twitter in response to media outlets claiming that the extremists imprisoned at the special management ward in Unit 11 are being abused. He also denied claims that the prisoners have organised a hunger strike.
The prisoners with extremist beliefs are jailed separately and were recently stopped from creating disorder at the prison by the officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and MCS.
