President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent condolences to the family of late Parliamentarian Ibrahim Riza over his demise.
In the message sent to the family, President Solih highlighted the commendable efforts of Riza in the Parliament of the Maldives and prayed that he receive eternal peace in paradise. He has been battling cancer since 2022 and passed away while undergoing treatment in Malaysia.
Riza, who represented the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), is one of the longest-serving parliamentarians. As such, he has served the last three terms as the Parliamentarian for the Guraidhoo constituency. He is also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Judiciary and the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions. He had also previously served as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has also sent his condolences to the family. In the message, Speaker Nasheed said Riza played a very important role in the political arena, including the introduction of the multiparty political system in the Maldives.
