Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir has stated that the Maldives received 1,000 quotas for Hajj pilgrimage in 2023 and is planning to get more quotas.
In a Tweet, Minister Zahir said the government of Saudi Arabia has already provided the official 1,000 Hajj quota to the Maldives. He said that additional quotas are being sought by the government of the Maldives.
The Saudi government has announced that it will allow the same number of pilgrims to perform Hajj pilgrimage this year as it did before the COVID-19 pandemic. About 2.4 million pilgrims participated for the Hajj pilgrimage in 2019.
The Saudi government has also announced that there will be no age limit for participation this year.
