Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ahmed Muthasim Adnan has advised lawyers to prioritise justice over money. He made the remark while speaking at the Bar Admission Ceremony held by the Bar Council of the Maldives (BCM) to admit new lawyers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Justice Muthasim said that every lawyer should gain experience and progress in their career. He acknowledged the hard work needed to be a lawyer and said that they should be diligent and responsible lest they suffer huge losses. He said that lawyers are expected to charge large fees but that they should always prioritise justice over money.
Additionally, Chief Justice Muthasim advised new lawyers to gain knowledge and experience and maintain discipline in order to receive an adequate income. He added that they should be patient in order to find success.
Furthermore, Chief Justice Muthasim highlighted the significance of holding the country’s first inaugural bar exam. He congratulated BCM and the international agencies such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the American Bar Association that assisted in holding the bar exam.
