Over 100,000 tourists arrive in February

Ministry of Tourism has revealed more than 100,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far in February.

As per the latest statistics released by the tourism ministry, 115,478 tourists arrived in the Maldives as of February 18 which is an increase of 28.8% compared to 89,663 tourists during the same period last year. The statistics also showed a total of 287,977 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this year which is recorded as a 30% increase compared to 214,428 tourist arrivals during the same period last year.

Furthermore, the statistics show that 172,499 tourist arrivals were recorded in January and 115,478 tourist arrivals were recorded as of February 18. The ministry is recording an average of 6,415 visits daily and tourists stay in the Maldives for an average of eight days.

The Maldives received the highest number of tourist arrivals from Russia so far this year. As such, 37,024 tourists have arrived in the Maldives from Russia so far. Meanwhile, the second highest tourist arrivals are recorded from India with 31,684 arrivals and the third most arrivals are recorded from the United Kingdom (UK) with 27,097 arrivals.

The number of tourist arrivals from China has also been increasing after the country eased its COVID-19 restrictions. As such, China is currently the 8th top tourism market for the Maldives.

The government aims to record 1.8 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
