MDP to award ticket to President Solih on February 17

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to officially award its presidential ticket to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on February 17.

The main ruling MDP will be holding the ceremony at Alimas Carnival in Male’ City. Senior party members and heads of party branches will be attending the event, and members of the general public will be allowed in, depending on the space available.

In the primary election held on January 28, President Solih secured the MDP presidential ticket in a landslide victory after defeating Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, winning the majority in all the atolls. President Solih won the primary election with 61%, which is 24,572 votes, while Speaker Nasheed received 39%, which is 15,631 votes.
