President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared February 6, 2023, as a government holiday as he is scheduled to deliver his Presidential Address.
The first session of the Parliament in 2023 will begin with the annual Presidential Address delivered by President Solih. It will be followed by the formal proceedings of the Parliament in the subsequent sessions.
The Presidential Address is mandated to be delivered by the president in accordance with Article 84 of the Constitution of the Maldives. The purpose of the Presidential Address is to state the current situation of the nation and areas which need to be addressed to resolve the issues faced by the country.
The Parliament went to recess on November 29 after completing 54.7% of the work during the last session of 2022.
