No room to question the validity of election: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed there is no room to question the validity of the primary election of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Speaking to the media after voting at the polling station at Iskandar School in the presidential primary election, President Solih said there had not been incidents of vote-rigging in any internal election of the party lauding the arrangements. He also said the arrangements for the election were made by experienced individuals.

Furthermore, President Solih said the election will be an important milestone in the life of democracy, expressing hope the election would end peacefully. He said all MDP members should work together for the presidential election.

Replying to questions from reporters, President Solih said the party will discuss the nomination of a running mate after the primary. He said he would work to increase the vote count when he contests the presidential election. He also said MDP should win the presidential election to complete the projects started in fisheries, tourism, education, health, and other sectors. He said the support of other parties should also be sought to win the presidential election following the primary election.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed are contesting in the MDP primary election. Both candidates have cast their ballots in the MDP primary. It is the first time a sitting president is contesting in a party primary in the Maldives.
