Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated that it is not creating a new unit to investigate accusations made on social media. ACC made the statement in response to claims made by media outlets after a meeting between the commission and the opposition coalition of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC).
ACC held the meeting to discuss the concerns of the opposition coalition. Afterward, the commission stated that the employees tasked with communication already inform the members of accusation of corruption published by mainstream media and circulated on social media. It further stated that all its employees bring such accusations to the attention of members and that members also personally evaluate the complaints.
As such, ACC stated that it will continue to monitor and investigate complaints and accusations of corruption circulating in the media but is not creating a special unit for the task.
