Over 37,000 tourist arrivals recorded in the first week of 2023

Ministry of Tourism has recorded more than 37,000 tourist arrivals in the first week of 2023.

The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show that a total of 37,209 tourists have visited the Maldives as of January 7, which is a 12.7% increase compared to the same period last year. In addition, the number of tourist arrivals crossed 5,000 per day. An average of 5,316 tourists visited every day and spend an average of eight days in the Maldives.

The statistics show the year started with major changes in the list of the most visited countries in the Maldives. At the end of last year, the highest number of tourists arrived from India. However, the highest number of tourists arrived from Russia with 7,570 arrivals in the first week of the year, according to the statistics.

A total of 33 international airlines currently operate flights to the Maldives, according to the tourism ministry. The government aimed to bring in 1.6 million tourists by 2022 and the target was achieved on December 20. The government has aimed to attract 1.8 million tourists in 2023.
