Maldives and Georgia explore ways to further expand relations

The Maldives and Georgia have explored ways to further expand bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in several areas including trade, tourism, health, education, environment and climate change. The discussions took place during the second round of political consultations co-chaired by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Ahmed Khaleel and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Alexander Khvtisiashvili.

During the discussions that were held in Tbilisi, the Maldives and Georgia focused on enhancing economic cooperation including increasing connectivity and boosting trade between both countries. The two governments also discussed international issues of mutual importance and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the multilateral arena.

The Political Consultation provides a platform between the two countries to discuss bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues of mutual importance. The first round of Political Consultation was held in the Maldives on December 11, 2019.
