A total of 393 students have graduated from the Maldives Polytechnic Institute in 2022.
The graduates were presented with certificates at the graduation ceremony by Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, and Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan. The students graduated from various courses including engine repair and maintenance, architecture, carpentry, and refrigeration and air conditioning.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dr. Hassan said that Maldives Polytechnic plays a crucial role in building skilled individuals that are needed in various sectors. He noted the current challenges in developing sectors due to the lack of skilled Maldivians and said that fisheries and agriculture are not popular among young people. He said that the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of diversifying the economy and that individuals should not think of some jobs as menial work and should accept jobs in any sector.
Also at the ceremony, Minister Hassan said the higher education sector has never been more productive and that the government has determined the most important sectors in the country that are in need of workers. He highlighted that technical and vocational education and training (TVET) centres are being built in four regions and that the benefits will be seen soon.
